Alumni Profiles

Check out our rotating alumni profiles and find out what our SHAs have been up to since graduating from UCSD.

Bennett Cua
SHA from 2003-2006

After graduating from UCSD, Bennett completed medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2011. He is currently an Internal Medicine resident at Yale New Haven Hospital and hopes to eventually apply for Cardiology fellowship.

Bennett's favorite SHA memory was serving as the Fitstop Coordinator and seeing people reach their fitness goals. Bennett says the importance of exercise and nutrition were engrained in him and he continues to stress these lifestyle changes to his patients everyday.

Katie Harris
SHA from 2005-2007
SHA Coordinator (staff) from 2007-2009

Katie’s favorite memory as an SHA was doing outreaches as part of the SHA Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) group, which included facilitating the famous “beer goggles” activity, volunteering for Sun God Festival, and encouraging safer drinking behaviors on campus.  She also loved doing the Fitstop Fitness Assessments.

After graduation, Katie served as the staff coordinator for the SHA Program from 2007-2009.  She then attended graduate school to earn her Masters as a physician assistant (PA).  She worked as a PA in family medicine and will be starting as a PA in Urgent Care in October 2012.

Cathryn Imperato (Perelli-Minetti), MSN, RN, NP
SHA from 1999-2001

Cathryn I graduated from UCSD in 2001 and since then has completed her MSN (MS in Nursing) at Yale University.  She is now an Adult and Women's Health Nurse Practioner working in the student health center at Northeastern University in Boston.

One of Cathryn’s favorite SHA memories was when she took on the task of being one of the coordinators for a sexual health education week.  For the event, she remembers making hundreds of condom roses and her apartment overflowing with boxes of condoms and craft materials.
